Beyond our Office: How we blew away our company outing ;)

On July 11, the time had finally come again: our annual company outing was here. At midday on that Wednesday, we all gathered in the office. Even our future colleague joined us – what a perfect opportunity to welcome her to the team.

After a brief chat and the final preparations, we set off together. The weather was great, the anticipation high – our afternoon of fun could begin!

From Zurich’s main station (HB), we took the train to Burgdorf. The atmosphere in the train was cheerful, and when we finally arrived in Burgdorf, a bus was already waiting to take us directly to Heimiswil, to the Gasthof Löwen.

At Gasthof Löwen, we were warmly welcomed and greeted with a delightful aperitif. In the idyllic setting of the inn, we left the office routine behind and enjoyed the first highlight of the day. But that was just the beginning – something truly special still awaited us...

Firstly, we were introduced to the history of glass as a material. We learned everything from its composition to fascinating fun facts. We were all amazed to hear that glass is never completely rigid. The deformations in old church windows clearly show that glass is constantly in motion – of course, over long periods of time.
Then, we got to watch how glassblowing works. The glass was heated in the flame until it became viscous and malleable. With impressive precision, the glassblower pulled, blew, and shaped a wine glass until it took the desired form.

Lastly, it was our turn! As the saying goes, every beginning is hard – so no one dared to start. Eventually, we all agreed that the boss should go first, and he bravely took on the challenge.

Well-prepared, Stefan stepped up to the task. With guidance from the glassblower, he crafted his own wine glass.

Encouraged by his success, we soon followed suit and took on the challenge ourselves.

Glassblowing was a unique experience. It required an incredible amount of finesse and patience, and when we all finally held our very own handcrafted wine glass in our hands, we felt a sense of pride. Naturally, we were eager to try out our masterpieces: "Cheers to us and our wine glasses!"

After this creative afternoon, we ended the day with a delicious dinner at Gasthof Löwen. Over good food and wine, we shared stories from the day and had a laugh about the differently shaped glasses that each of us got to take home.

Later, we took a taxi back to Burgdorf, where we caught the train back to Zurich. Tired but happy, we ended a wonderful day full of new impressions and exciting experiences...
